And we are off… Pre season has started! On Tuesday August 11th the University of Maryland started their 2009 season! We just had the necessary meetings to complete the paperwork and today, wednesday we had the first on field session with our new team. The 2009 Maryland Team is new, we have 9 incoming freshmen and from last year we have lost 4 Seniors! It is going to be a very interesting year for us this year! Team dynamics, implementation of certain tactical plans and the new free hit rule will make it a great and interesting season from a coaching perspective! I am very much looking forward to it!
This pre season is also different then other pre seasons! We do not yet have the whole team complete… 3 of our players are representing the USA at the Junior World Cup in Boston. It is always great when college players can represent their country and especially when it is at an event in the USA. With Maryland it will not be 2 a days this coming weekend, we still have very early practices but we are actually visiting the Junior World Cup in Boston with the team along with scrimmages vs College teams in Boston over the weekend!
A weekend full of top International hockey and getting the Terps ready for season! Doesn’t get any better than that! I will report back with a new blog after the weekend to give a quick roundup from the World Cup!
As players and coaches hopefully will read this blog I wanted to share with each of you; Good luck in the next weeks! We are all starting with Pre season and it will mean hard work, sweat, great successes, disappointments, tears but keep that goal in mind! Striving for an overall great performance as an individual and a team. Winning that last game late in November…. that’s why you have to put in the work right now! Work hard and enjoy it as much as you can!
Till next week

I’m very excited for your season, Tara Zollinger is a former player and should be a great asset to your squad. She is very passionate about the sport.
I’ve made plans to attend the Sept tournament in MD. Good luck and work hard.
Best of luck to you all at the University of Maryland this year! Thanks Tjerk for a great world camp session this summer at Swarthmore, my girls sure did enjoy themselves! Looking forward to reading your blogs this season…
