There is NO off-season

By Tori Whitcher | Jan 14, 2010 in Tori's Blog for Players

I am currently a junior playing DI hockey at the University of Richmond. I hope to update this blog regularly - so check back. I'll try to give you an inside look into what it's like to play and study at the collegiate level - and help you best decide on what college and team is right for you. Stay tuned - and please comment so I know what you are thinking!

So I have been back from winter break for 4 days now – and have had 4 very intense 7 AM workouts already (a much improvement from last spring’s 5:30 AM alarm).

One thing I did not know going into college was how hard-core D1 spring season is. We have a dry spring – I’m 21 – but that means no alcohol – ever.  7AM lift and running workouts Monday-Friday and afternoon hockey practices, and the second half of the spring season we have all day weekend tournaments where we play against other schools.

This week, being the first week back, and getting situated with new classes, we had lift testing Monday, Wednesday and tomorrow (Friday) and had conditioning testing this morning and an intense workout Tuesday morning.

Basically every girl on my team, including myself, is limping around campus feeling like a truck ran over our bodies.

This is why we do it. Me with the 2009 A10 Trophy

Want to see a great goal by my teammate in the A10 Semis against  Umass – going one-on-one with the U21 Nat.  team GK – a Golden Goal to win!

Stay tuned for more spring season updates!

I have twin daughters that love the sport and try and play as much as they can. I am nervous they will ‘overload’ and burnout. They are playing on a RI club team now (they are 13 year olds) as well as Futures. They want to play in a summer league. How do I find one. They are looking in Dennis, MA area.
